Emily Browning: Sucker Punch’s ‘Hit Girl’
Filed Under: Emily, Gallery, Interview, Movies, Photoshoots, Sucker Punch

Here’s another new article from Teen Vogue – it even features a clear picture of the gorgeous photo seen in the scan. There is mention of her false Twilight fame as well as her new film.

For Sucker Punch star Emily Browning, the adventures have just begun.

She’s always been a very pretty girl. But Emily Browning isn’t exactly accustomed to playing the bombshell: When she dyed her hair platinum to portray Baby Doll, the improbably glamorous mental patient at the center of this month’s action fantasy Sucker Punch, she was shocked by the ensuing shift in her persona. “It was kind of like a funny little social experiment,” the 22-year-old says. “People make all of these assumptions about your personality. And I definitely attracted more creeps.”

Nevertheless, Emily—best known, until now, for starring as Violet in the 2004 adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events (after which she took three years off “to finish high school and get some normal perspective”) and for turning down the chance to audition for the role of Bella Swan in Twilight (she was author Stephenie Meyer’s “favorite choice” but has admitted that she didn’t feel up to another potential franchise)—says that she welcomed the chance to “transform” herself for a role. And the change affected more than just her hair: The cast, which also includes Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, and Jena Malone, “trained for six hours a day, five days a week,” Emily says. “I’d never even really worked out before this! It was like, Oh, I’m going to actually use my body?” The Melbourne, Australia-based actress admits that the plot of the movie is nearly impossible to explain concisely— “You just have to see it, I think”—but adds that the effects-heavy battle scenes therein were a big part of the attraction. “You never see an all-female action film,” she says. “If people do attempt it, it’s like a parody: ‘Look, these girls are fighting, and that’s hilarious because girls aren’t tough.’ Girls—and their strength— are taken seriously in this.”

New interview from when Sucker Punch was filming
Filed Under: Movies, Sucker Punch

Keep in mind this was written in 2009, before the trailers that we have now and probably before most of the film was finished as it is now. However, it was released a few weeks ago.

It’s December 2009, and I’m in Vancouver Canada. Earlier this morning we saw the first press screening of James Cameron’s Avatar with an audience of Vancouver press and filmmakers which included District 9 director Neill Blomkamp. A few hours later, I’m standing in a green screen stage at Vancouver Film Studios. This is the production centre where a lot of sci-fi television series are filmed, shows such as Dark Angel, Smallville, Battlestar Galactica, Bionic Woman, Reaper, Caprica, Eureka, Fringe, Human Target and films such as X-Men II and 3, I Robot, Fantastic Four 1 and 2, The A-Team and 2012.

Zack Snyder filmed some of Watchmen on this lot, and has returned to Canada to shoot his latest — Sucker Punch.

Snyder even pushed our set visit back a couple hours so that we could attend that local screening of Avatar, allowing us the ability to see the movie at the same time as the press at the nationwide press screenings. The fact that Snyder was able to arrange this is mind-boggling for a bunch of different reasons, but especially considering studio politics — Avatar was being released by Fox and Sucker Punch was a Warner Bros production. And most other filmmakers probably would have said “Fuck Avatar”, not wanting to be out-done — how can your set visit possibly compete with a film which was billed as a cinema changing event? But that’s the kind of confident filmmaker Snyder has become.

A helicopter is situated about twenty feet above us, and Snyder is on a ladder talking to Jena Malone, one of the four main stars of the film. Jena Malone plays Rocket, beside her is Emily Browning, who plays Baby Doll, Abbie Cornish, who plays Sweet Pea, Vanessa Hudgens who plays Blondie and Jamie Chung who plays Amber. Snyder explains how the helicopter will bank to the left in the upcoming wide shot. Emily asks how far they’re jumping in the real world, and Zack quickly responds “About twenty feet” before stopping himself and laughing “What real world?”

New photo of Emily during New York Fashion Week & first reviews of ‘Sucker Punch’
Filed Under: Gallery, Movies, Sucker Punch

During Fashion Week in September, Emily attended a party where The Cobra Snake photographed her. Coincidentally, someone I know met her this night and said she was super sweet! Here’s the photo of her from The Cobra Snake. Isn’t her outfit adorable?

As a side note, earlier this month two lucky people got to see Sucker Punch in full. However, it was not completed and the ending was not finished. Both people were unbiased, but I didn’t really find their reviews to be too helpful. However, this is what one person had to say about Emily and while it’s a little sexist I figure you guys might be interested:

Anorak: “Of the young girls, all are phenomenal! Emily Browning in particular is jaw dropping, even without a line of dialogue for the first half hour or so. She is sexy, tough, vulnerable and entrancing, even without the dance. Oscar Isaac is the true villain and is charming, intelligent and sinister with every line he delivers.”

You can read the rest here. As a side note, we have been getting a lot of spam comments. There really isn’t any point of spamming because I have to approve every comment and I have no problem rejecting spam. Please use common sense when commenting on our posts, if it doesn’t have to do with Emily or what we’re saying there’s really no point in commenting. Thanks!

Just wanted to add that you can see Emily watching Prabal Gurgung’s Spring 2011 fashion show on their website, it’s the main video and though it’s dark she’s in the front row on the left side. Click here to be taken to the site to also view the collection. I am sure she also appears in other videos, I’ll try to find them if I’m able to!
