Emily Browning: Sucker Punch’s ‘Hit Girl’
Filed Under: Emily, Gallery, Interview, Movies, Photoshoots, Sucker Punch

Here’s another new article from Teen Vogue – it even features a clear picture of the gorgeous photo seen in the scan. There is mention of her false Twilight fame as well as her new film.

For Sucker Punch star Emily Browning, the adventures have just begun.

She’s always been a very pretty girl. But Emily Browning isn’t exactly accustomed to playing the bombshell: When she dyed her hair platinum to portray Baby Doll, the improbably glamorous mental patient at the center of this month’s action fantasy Sucker Punch, she was shocked by the ensuing shift in her persona. “It was kind of like a funny little social experiment,” the 22-year-old says. “People make all of these assumptions about your personality. And I definitely attracted more creeps.”

Nevertheless, Emily—best known, until now, for starring as Violet in the 2004 adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events (after which she took three years off “to finish high school and get some normal perspective”) and for turning down the chance to audition for the role of Bella Swan in Twilight (she was author Stephenie Meyer’s “favorite choice” but has admitted that she didn’t feel up to another potential franchise)—says that she welcomed the chance to “transform” herself for a role. And the change affected more than just her hair: The cast, which also includes Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, and Jena Malone, “trained for six hours a day, five days a week,” Emily says. “I’d never even really worked out before this! It was like, Oh, I’m going to actually use my body?” The Melbourne, Australia-based actress admits that the plot of the movie is nearly impossible to explain concisely— “You just have to see it, I think”—but adds that the effects-heavy battle scenes therein were a big part of the attraction. “You never see an all-female action film,” she says. “If people do attempt it, it’s like a parody: ‘Look, these girls are fighting, and that’s hilarious because girls aren’t tough.’ Girls—and their strength— are taken seriously in this.”

Things have been quiet on the Emily front… but I have four new images for you. Two are outtakes that are unfortunately tagged, but great nevertheless. The other two are from 2009, when Emily attended the Myer Winter/Autumn fashion parade. Enjoy!
