Emily Browning: I have no regrets turning down Twilight audition
Filed Under: Emily, Gallery, Interview, Scans

Hi everyone! There’s a brilliant new Emily interview from Metro.co.uk – where Emily addresses the Twilight fiasco and whether or not in her opinion she thinks she’s ever going to go ‘off the rails’ as a star. There are also some new scans from a magazine that I’m trying to track down in higher quality.

Have you ever been sucker punched?

I actually have by someone who, to this day, is one of my best friends. We were maybe nine years old and we got into a fight at a roller rink. I wasn’t paying attention and she socked me on the nose. It actually made our friendship stronger.

Did you get revenge?

I kicked her in the shins with my rollerblades.

Did you do any fight training for this latest film?

It’s an action fantasy adventure film, so we did three months of training with navy Seals and these stunt guys who were experts in all sorts of martial arts. It was six hours a day for three months. It was definitely the most physically demanding thing I’ve ever done.

What was the best skill you learned?

For me, just being physical was great. I never thought I’d be the kind of person who was into guns because I’m morally opposed to them in everyday life but in that situation, where it’s a controlled environment, it was pretty awesome to be gun-trained. It’s a powerful feeling.

The costumes are pretty skimpy. What did you think the first time you saw them?

The first time I saw them was before we started training, so I was pretty terrified. But I understood the style of the film. Zack doesn’t shoot anything gratuitously. The costumes are sexy but there’s no up-the-skirt shots, so I felt OK with that.

You’ve been acting since childhood. Does that mean you’ll soon develop a cocaine habit or go off the rails?

I hope not. I worked in Los Angeles for the first time when I was 15 and I saw some messed-up kids who seemed to be going down that path and I got a bit freaked out, so I decided to take three years off to finish high school and started again when I had some semblance of being an adult. Hopefully I’ve avoided that.

Emily Browning: Sucker Punch’s ‘Hit Girl’
Filed Under: Emily, Gallery, Interview, Movies, Photoshoots, Sucker Punch

Here’s another new article from Teen Vogue – it even features a clear picture of the gorgeous photo seen in the scan. There is mention of her false Twilight fame as well as her new film.

For Sucker Punch star Emily Browning, the adventures have just begun.

She’s always been a very pretty girl. But Emily Browning isn’t exactly accustomed to playing the bombshell: When she dyed her hair platinum to portray Baby Doll, the improbably glamorous mental patient at the center of this month’s action fantasy Sucker Punch, she was shocked by the ensuing shift in her persona. “It was kind of like a funny little social experiment,” the 22-year-old says. “People make all of these assumptions about your personality. And I definitely attracted more creeps.”

Nevertheless, Emily—best known, until now, for starring as Violet in the 2004 adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events (after which she took three years off “to finish high school and get some normal perspective”) and for turning down the chance to audition for the role of Bella Swan in Twilight (she was author Stephenie Meyer’s “favorite choice” but has admitted that she didn’t feel up to another potential franchise)—says that she welcomed the chance to “transform” herself for a role. And the change affected more than just her hair: The cast, which also includes Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, and Jena Malone, “trained for six hours a day, five days a week,” Emily says. “I’d never even really worked out before this! It was like, Oh, I’m going to actually use my body?” The Melbourne, Australia-based actress admits that the plot of the movie is nearly impossible to explain concisely— “You just have to see it, I think”—but adds that the effects-heavy battle scenes therein were a big part of the attraction. “You never see an all-female action film,” she says. “If people do attempt it, it’s like a parody: ‘Look, these girls are fighting, and that’s hilarious because girls aren’t tough.’ Girls—and their strength— are taken seriously in this.”
